Widespread, locally common
Wingspan: 30-40mm. Very variable. Females are wingless.

Flight time: October-February
Habitat: Deciduous woodland, also hedgerows, gardens, heaths

Larvae feed on a wide range of broadleaved trees and shrubs

Similar: Scarce Umber, Oct-Dec, golden yellow-orange colour.
Dotted Border, February-April, row of dots along wing edges
