IRISH MOTHS and BUTTERFLIES

This isn't a comprehensive guide to Irish moths but illustrates species recorded in and near my garden near Ballingeary, Co. Cork, SW Ireland, with my grandchildren in Foynes, Co. Limerick and occasionally in other locations in Ireland.
I never realised how fascinating, varied and colourful moths were until I started looking ...

Clicking on the thumbnail images opens a species page with details, photographs and maps from the MothsIreland website.
Photographs are not to scale. Species pages give both the ABH and B&F numbers.
If mistakes are found please contact me so I can correct them.

April 2026 - I've finally updated (most of) the website to ABH numbers (2013 checklist) from the B&F numbers previously used.
Some sections remain to be updated but its a work in progress!
