Widespread, common
Wingspan: 45-55mm. Very variable but has distinctive black mark on edge of wing near wing tip.

Flight time: June-October
Found in most habitats, can be abundant in open, grassy areas

Larvae mainly feed underground on various herbaceous plants and grasses

Similar: Lesser Yellow Underwing. No black mark near wing tip
